Eden, Texas is a city in Concho County, approximately 160 miles south of Austin. It is a small, rural community with a population of 2,766 at the 2010 census. It’s named after Frederick Ede, who moved to Concho County in 1881 and designated forty acres of his land as a townsite. In addition to the town square, the town received a post office in 1883. In addition, a school opened in 1884.

While many communities would rather see a prison, Eden’s leaders were not able to get one in the first place. The city’s bread-and-butter businesses and population didn’t grow without the presence of inmates. Regardless of the prison’s status, the city’s high school is large enough to have an eleven-man football team. Its leaders are now working hard to make the town an even more inviting place for people to live.
